Arthritis project
During an exchange program at OCAD University, I was given the task to design a product for people with arthritis. After much research and having met people who suffer from the disease I decided to focus on the kitchen, and more precisely the pan. Indeed, when cooking with a pan or a saucepan, all the weight is concentrated on the wrist. One of the main point the people I met talked to me about, was the fact that «arthritis friendly» products took a lot of places. There is the one to open the can, the one to cut, adapted cutlery andso on.
Durant mon semestre à Toronto à OCAD University, j’ai pu travailler sur un projet lié à l’arthrite. Après des premières recherches, j’ai décidé de me concentrer plus particulièrement sur la cuisine, une tâche quotidienne et demandant beaucoup de manipulation.J’ai donc créé ce projet en imaginant faire partie de la marque Tefal et en étendant leur gamme de poignée de poil amovible. Ces deux poignées sont davantage ergonomiques et possèdent des boutons plus gros pour faciliter leurs utilisations. L’idée était de créer deux outils permettant d’adapter la façon de cuisiner à la douleur quotidienne en permettant différentes options d’utilisation à l’usager.

After much research and having met people who suffer from the disease I decided to focus on the kitchen, and more precisely the pan. Indeed, when cooking with a pan or a saucepan, all the weight is concentrated on the wrist. One of the main point the people I met talked to me about, was the fact that « arthritis friendly » products took a lot of places. There is the one to open the can, the one to cut, adapted cutlery andso on. Too many products and too ugly. And so I thought of the brand Tefal, known for their removable handle, practical and easy. But one thing I noticed what that they only proposed one kind of handle. That’s why I decided to create those two new handle. The project is quite simple, the same system but with adapted button and more ergonomic. My goal was to let the user personalize their pan. Whether they want to use one or two handles, short or long, with this project they could easily adapt their pan to their daily pain.
